Questions

Why is every game $1?

The $1 Promise: every game we sell online is $1, so cost is never the reason a child doesn't get to learn. Sets cost $1 a game. Boxed editions cost more because a box has to be printed, shipped and safety tested.

Do I keep the game?

Yes. You download a file that's yours, like games used to be. It works offline for as long as you keep it. When a new edition comes out, it's a new $1 purchase, and your old edition keeps working.

How do I play on an iPhone or iPad?

Your receipt has a private web address for each game. Open it in Safari, tap Share, then Add to Home Screen. It installs like an app and works with no internet. (Opening the downloaded file from the Files app only shows a preview.)

What does Grove 18+ mean?

Every Arcade game has a switch at the top: Kids rules or Grove 18+ rules. Grove is harder: bigger boards, deeper strategy, harder questions. It is not grown-up content, so there's no gate: anyone can climb to it.

What's on the world leaderboards?

Nothing, unless a grown-up turns them on. Then the game sends a made-up name like “Swift Otter 482”, the game, the seed and the moves, and our server replays the game to check the score. No real names, email, chat or location. You can delete a device's scores at any time.

Is there anything to buy inside the games?

No. No ads, no in-game purchases, no subscriptions and no tracking.

What is print and play?

You buy a PDF, print it at home on letter paper, and cut out the board, cards and pieces. Nothing is shipped. Print at actual size (100%), not "fit to page", so the board pieces line up.

How do I get my download?

After you pay, you get an email with your download links. Save the files on your computer so you always have them.

Which game should I start with?

Token Trail on Sprout for ages 5 to 8, Sapling for 8 to 12, Branch for 12 to 17. Xerty Board works at the same rungs for two players. The gift finder picks for you.

Do the games use AI or collect data?

No. The games teach how AI works. The computer players are simple programs that follow rules, not AI models. The printed games are paper. The screen edition and the Arcade run only in your browser and have no account; the Arcade sends scores only if a grown-up turns world leaderboards on.

When are the boxed games coming?

They are not made yet. Nudge, Map of Meaning and The Stumper come first. Join the list on the coming-soon page and you will get one email when a boxed game is ready, with its price and contents.

Can I return a download?

See the store's refund policy in the footer. A download can't be sent back, so read exactly what is in each kit on its page before you buy.

Is it safe for small children?

Print and play kits make small paper parts, and the boxed editions will have small parts. Keep them away from children under 3. The Seed and Seedling toys for under-5s will have no small parts, batteries or magnets.

How much screen time is this?

Arcade games run 5 to 15 minutes and end on their own; the daily challenge is one game a day. For under-5s we make screen-free toys instead.
